This vertical preparatory drawing focuses on the face of San Paolino, positioned on the right to welcome the Madonna. The face depicted is a self-portrait of Catarsini, portrayed in profile to the left with a serious expression and his head held high, while he looks at the Virgin. A detail of the Greek decoration on the neck of the tunic can be seen.
