This horizontal work highlights Catarsini’s eclecticism and his ability to achieve extreme synthesis with sharp contrasts and spatial voids, where the single splash of color becomes the gravitational center of the entire experience.
Unlike other works, often dense and crowded, here a clean white background dominates, against which the mechanical forms do not appear as heavy machinery, but as dreamlike, light visions floating in the void. Attention is immediately drawn to the lower right corner: what is usually a cogwheel here transforms into a pinwheel. Around it, a series of black brushstrokes arranged in a radial pattern creates a sense of rapid rotation, almost a magnetic aura. At the exact center of the pinwheel, a bright orange spot shines. It is the only colored point in the entire painting: a pulsating heart of energy that gives life to the surrounding black and white. Moving to the left, the composition becomes more linear and geometric: three circles with very thin, barely visible edges seem to float in the air. Thin lines and geometric collectors connect these circles, creating a structure that, despite its minimality, acquires a sculptural consistency as it stands out from the light background.
Meaning of the work: Catarsini strips the machine of all industrial gloom. By reducing everything to the essential, he offers us a pure emotion: technology is no longer an oppressive monster, but a play of lines and a flash of orange light dancing in the silence of the white. It represents an absolute exception in Catarsini’s oeuvre. Here, his rich palette comes to the fore, leaving room for a rigorous black and white, interrupted by a single, vibrant point of color. It is visual proof of his famous quote: “There is no problem in moving from abstract to figurative and vice versa, for the artist it is the same… all you need is imagination
