A multi-year project
Art accessible to everyone

The Fondazione Catarsini stands out for the way it designs services that open art to people with disabilities, following an original method with a scientific basis. The project runs through all our activities: the Catarsini Trail, exhibitions, training for museum staff, and the Catarsini Prize for tactile works.

Access to the travelling exhibition

We develop ways of opening art exhibitions to everyone. By writing adapted descriptions, laying out inclusive routes and adding multimedia aids, we turn the travelling exhibition into a sensory and aesthetic experience that visitors with sight and hearing impairments can share in full.

Access to the Trail “The places of Catarsini”

A slow, cultural itinerary rethought for everyone. Interactive totems at the main points, and adapted audio descriptions (bilingual and in Italian Sign Language) that download straight to a smartphone, let anyone walk the route and discover the area entirely on their own.

Hands-on workshops

We set up accessible, free-entry spaces inside public premises made available by local authorities. There we place reproductions and tactile works, and run cycles of exercises and sensory-reactivation training that let people explore art through touch, listening and the body working together.

Access in the Catarsini Regional Prize

Our long-standing competition for upper secondary schools joins the nurturing of young talent to public usefulness. Student artists take on the design of tactile works and adapted descriptions, turning their creativity into a gift for peers with disabilities and seeing their work shown in places as prestigious as the Omero Tactile Museum.

Adapted descriptions for exhibitions, cultural and tourist routes, and training for museum staff

We pass specialist skills on to museum staff, tour guides and the people who work for our partner organisations. Through training on inclusive welcome, sensory impairment and the use of aids for blind and partially sighted visitors, we prepare culture professionals to guide and welcome every kind of visitor.
