XXIV Alfredo Catarsini Regional prize 2026
“To live in the provinces means taking in the enigmatic world of the arts on a more human and essential scale”
A. Catarsini
The prize is part of the multi-year projects The Trail — The places of Catarsini and Art accessible to everyone
For the 24th edition of the prize, entitled “THE MEMORY OF A LAND ALONG THE TRAIL — THE PLACES OF CATARSINI”, run with the Regional Schools Office for Tuscany and part of the multi-year projects The Trail — The places of Catarsini and Art accessible to everyone, which the Fondazione Catarsini dedicates to visitors and to people with sight impairments, we are glad to offer an educational initiative for students in the third, fourth and fifth years of upper secondary schools.
The initiative sets out to bring value to the area and to make art accessible to everyone, and takes its cue from the landscapes along the Trail and from the artist’s paintings shown at these stops: Lucca, Castagnori, San Martino in Freddana, Camaiore, Pietrasanta, Seravezza, Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio and Massarosa.
In his working life the artist, Alfredo Catarsini, gave form to different historical moments and bore witness to his time, with close ties to Versilia and the Lucca area — ties that can mean something to young people today. The competition takes its cue from the works and the landscapes along this Trail,
The competition has two sections
— One section is for works made explorable by touch for people with sight impairments (sculpted low and high reliefs), reinterpreting works by Alfredo Catarsini that will be sent to the participating schools together with the necessary guidance
— One is for written or visual work inspired by the places along the Trail — The places of Catarsini
The prizes
— There are 3 purchase prizes in money, reserved for 3 works explorable by touch that reach the final of the first section (first prize €300, second prize €200, third prize €100);
— Works reaching the final of the second section may receive honourable mentions. Every finalist will be given a certificate of participation. The prizes will be awarded in May 2026, on a date and at a place still to be set.
