Mission

The Alfredo Catarsini 1899 ETS Foundation is dedicated to the study, understanding and promotion of the work of Alfredo Catarsini, painter and writer, and to the preservation and dissemination of the artistic, literary and documentary heritage that bears witness to his human and creative journey. It explores his role in the artistic and cultural landscape of the twentieth century, fostering knowledge of his work through research, publications, talks and cultural initiatives.

Conservation and digitisation: it looks after the archiving, cataloguing and digitisation of the artistic and documentary heritage, alongside the promotion of the artist’s studio at the Villa Museo Paolina Bonaparte in Viareggio.

Exhibitions and events: it creates and promotes exhibitions devoted to the artist, including Il Novecento di Catarsini. Dalla macchia alla macchina, an accessible travelling exhibition that retraces his artistic journey and research. The project is designed around accessibility and inclusion: the route through the works is accompanied by QR codes and dedicated bilingual audio guides, conceived to make the experience accessible to people with visual impairments too.

Education and young people: it encourages young people’s knowledge of art and their creativity through the Alfredo Catarsini Regional Prize, an annual competition for school students – the only one in Italy that rewards tactile works – and through initiatives devoted to discovering the artist’s work and thought.

Inclusion, accessibility and the local area: it develops cultural tourism routes that weave together art, history and nature, such as the Cammino I luoghi di Catarsini, the only one in Italy that is also accessible to people with visual impairments, and promotes the project Art accessible to everyone, which aims to make the artistic and cultural heritage accessible to people with visual impairments too, through multisensory tools and ways of learning.
